Levi C. Maaia is a digital technology tinkerer and project leader focused on equitable solutions for a just society.

Through Maaia Communications, Levi helps telecom companies and internet service providers thrive in today’s highly competitive environment. He’s built a deep understanding of what it takes, ranging from the business basics of negotiating favorable contracts with content providers — to the massive task of rebuilding a technical infrastructure to truly compete — and everything in between.

From 2004-2018, under Levi’s leadership, Full Channel, an independent broadband communications provider, successfully turned around a declining subscriber base while making highly successful forays into digital and high-definition television, TV Everywhere content streaming, IP telephony and renewable energy solutions. This included the groundbreaking GreenLink® initiative: an innovative partnership with People’s Power & Light to deliver broadband services via 100% local wind power. As a result of these efforts, cable industry trade publication CableFAX honored him and his team with a Top Ops Award.

In addition to his role at Maaia Communications, Levi is a Ph.D. candidate and research fellow at the Gevirtz Graduate School of Education at the University of California, Santa Barbara. His work at UCSB is focused on digital literacies in engineering education, and how technology-enabled learning programs can be adapted across a variety of applications.

Levi’s lifelong interest and involvement in cutting-edge technology began in his high school and college days. One example is ComCreations, the interactive design and development company he founded in 1996. Levi also collaborated with two fellow students at Boston University to form Green Line TV: an early video-streaming community that was among the first to stream independent film and video content online.

Levi also enjoys sailing, aviation, amateur radio, photography and tinkering with his 1966 Mustang.
